Built by a former prosecutor for serious West Texas cases.
Adam Setra is a Texas criminal defense lawyer, personal injury attorney, and former El Paso County prosecutor with the 34th Judicial District Attorney’s Office (2023). He founded West Texas Trial Lawyers, PLLC to build a firm where serious criminal cases — state felony, federal, and DWI — are prepared for trial, and where clients work directly with the attorney on their file.
He serves clients across West Texas and South Texas — including El Paso, Midland, Odessa, San Antonio, Del Rio, and rural counties across the Permian Basin and border region — defending serious state felony and federal criminal charges (homicide, first-degree felonies, federal narcotics, fraud, DWI) and representing families in 18-wheeler truck accidents, oilfield injuries, catastrophic personal injury, and wrongful death.
He builds defenses the way prosecutions are built — exhaustively, and in writing. Deep discovery audits that force the State to show its work. Constitutional challenges that put the stop, the search, and the statement on trial first. Pre-trial litigation that dismantles the government’s narrative before a case ever reaches a jury. Motion practice, suppression litigation, grand jury practice, and federal indictment defense are core to how he works a file.
Credentials & education
Adam is licensed by the State Bar of Texas (Bar No. 24115478) and admitted in all four U.S. District Courts in Texas — Western, Northern, Southern, and Eastern — and in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico. He is a graduate of The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) and the University of Minnesota Law School. He has been recognized as a Super Lawyers Rising Star by Thomson Reuters. That recognition is a third-party peer-selection listing; it is not a guarantee of results and is not a claim of specialization under Texas advertising rules.
Practice areas
Adam’s criminal docket includes state felony defense, federal criminal defense, emergency bond and detention work, pre-indictment intervention, DWI defense, drug possession and trafficking defense, family violence and aggravated assault defense, sex crimes defense, theft and burglary defense, weapons offenses, white-collar and fraud matters, TABC regulatory defense, and crimmigration coordination for non-citizen clients (including ICE detainer / Padilla advisement issues). On the civil side, the firm’s wedge practice is limited to catastrophic matters — commercial truck accidents, oilfield and industrial injury, and wrongful death.
Principal office in El Paso; regional office in San Antonio. Active practice across the Permian Basin, border region, Bexar County, and the surrounding West Texas counties named on the firm’s service map. Clients work with him directly in English or Spanish — no translator, no intermediary.
